Unidentified persons had demolished the school building late on Thursday night. The documents stored in the school and also the furniture were destroyed.
Meanwhile, school manager P K Padmarajan went absconding. The Deputy Director of Education has suspended the manager.
Alleging that land mafia was involved in the incident, local residents and political party representatives blocked traffic on the national highway on Thursday. Further, authorities concerned arrived at the spot and pacified them.
Discussions were held at the Collector's chamber, in which a decision to reconstruct the school was taken. In this connection, a petition will be submitted to the chief minister. Also the funds for the purpose will be raised by collecting donations from public.
Sources said a row over closure of the school was going on between the management of the over 150-year-old school and the PTA.
Last November, the DirectorGeneralof School Education had ordered closure of the school due to loss. Owing to the protest of teachers and locals, the minister had informed that the decision would be reconsidered.
Meanwhile, talks on admission procedures for the next academic year was held at a meeting convened by A Pradeep Kumar MLA. Against this backdrop, the building was demolished on Thursday night.
